God created male and female to be equal in being and in function.
As the result of sin, their relationship of mutuality and equality gave way to domination and hierarchy.
God promised to raise up one from Eve’s offspring who would destroy the results of sin and bring forth a new creation.
Within a fallen, male dominated world, the Old Testament records exceptions to the “rule” with women serving in leadership.
Jesus elevated women in a way that was revolutionary for his time.
The New Creation begins to reverse the curse of sin and empowers men and women to become equal partners, functioning together on mission, as God originally intended.
Romans 12:4-8 NIV
4 For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, 5 so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. 6 We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; 7 if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; 8 if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.
1 Timothy 1:3 NIV
3 As I urged you when I went into Macedonia, stay there in Ephesus so that you may command certain people not to teach false doctrines any longer
1 Timothy 5:11-13 NIV
11 As for younger widows, do not put them on such a list. For when their sensual desires overcome their dedication to Christ, they want to marry. 12 Thus they bring judgment on themselves, because they have broken their first pledge. 13 Besides, they get into the habit of being idle and going about from house to house. And not only do they become idlers, but also busybodies who talk nonsense, saying things they ought not to.
2 Timothy 3:5-7 NIV
5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people. 6 They are the kind who worm their way into homes and gain control over gullible women, who are loaded down with sins and are swayed by all kinds of evil desires, 7 always learning but never able to come to a knowledge of the truth.
1 Timothy 2:8-9 NIV
8 Therefore I want the men everywhere to pray, lifting up holy hands without anger or disputing. 9 I also want the women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, adorning themselves, not with elaborate hairstyles or gold or pearls or expensive clothes,
1 Timothy 2:11-12 NIV
11 A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. 12 I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man; she must be quiet.
– to control, domineer, dictate
1 Timothy 2:13-14 NIV
13 For Adam was formed first, then Eve. 14 And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner.
2 Corinthians 11:3 NIV
3 But I am afraid that just as Eve was deceived by the serpent’s cunning, your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ.
Anyone who is vulnerable to false teaching should not teach.
Anyone who is unlearned and immature should learn in quietness and submission before they are permitted to teach others.
Galatians 3:26-28 NIV
26 So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, 27 for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.
