SERMON NOTES

Luke 24:36-48 NLT

36 And just as they were telling about it, Jesus himself was suddenly standing there among them. “Peace be with you,” he said. 37 But the whole group was startled and frightened, thinking they were seeing a ghost! 38 “Why are you frightened?” he asked. “Why are your hearts filled with doubt? 39 Look at my hands. Look at my feet. You can see that it’s really me. Touch me and make sure that I am not a ghost, because ghosts don’t have bodies, as you see that I do.” 40 As he spoke, he showed them his hands and his feet. 41 Still they stood there in disbelief, filled with joy and wonder. Then he asked them, “Do you have anything here to eat?” 42 They gave him a piece of broiled fish, 43 and he ate it as they watched. 44 Then he said, “When I was with you before, I told you that everything written about me in the law of Moses and the prophets and in the Psalms must be fulfilled.” 45 Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures. 46 And he said, “Yes, it was written long ago that the Messiah would suffer and die and rise from the dead on the third day. 47 It was also written that this message would be proclaimed in the authority of his name to all the nations, Or all peoples. beginning in Jerusalem: ‘There is forgiveness of sins for all who repent.’ 48 You are witnesses of all these things.

Jesus is no longer dead, but full of life.

The people were in disbelief and filled with joy and wonder.

Jesus expected those who were present to spread this good news.

A resurrected life belongs to someone who was once dead but is now alive.

You are no longer dead, but you are full of life.

Romans 6:4-6 NLT
For we died and were buried with Christ by baptism. And just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious power of the Father, now we also may live new lives. Since we have been united with him in his death, we will also be raised to life as he was. We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sin.

Romans 10:9 NLT

9 If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

People should be in disbelief and filled with joy and wonder when they see that you are now alive.

You should now go, show, and tell about your resurrection.

Mark 16:15 NLT

15 And then he told them, “Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone.

Sanctification – The work of the Holy Spirit that separates believers from sin and evil and dedicates them to the worship and service of the Lord.

Philippians 2:12-13 NLT
12 Dear friends, you always followed my instructions when I was with you. And now that I am away, it is even more important. Work hard to show the results of your salvation, obeying God with deep reverence and fear.13 For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.

Philippians 1:6 NLT
6 And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.

Signs that you are no longer living a resurrected life:

1. You can’t tell when the Spirit of God is moving.
2. You allow pride to creep in.
3. You become churched.
4. You allow the gospel message to become corrupt by infusing it with man’s wisdom.
5. You stop REALLY loving people.
6. You’ve returned to your former sinful ways.
