SERMON NOTES

“I defy the Pope and his laws. If God spare my life, ere many years I will cause a boy who drives the plough to know more of the scriptures than you do.” – William Tyndale

Luke 2:25-26 NLT
25 At that time there was a man in Jerusalem named Simeon. He was righteous and devout and was eagerly waiting for the Messiah to come and rescue Israel. The Holy Spirit was upon him 26 and had revealed to him that he would not die until he had seen the Lord’s Messiah.

The Bible is God’s Story:
Plan A – God alone is King.
Plan B – God accommodates Israel by granting it a human king.
Plan A – God is now ruling in King Jesus!

Luke 2:28-31 NIV
28 Simeon took him in his arms and praised God, saying: 29 “Sovereign Lord, as you have promised, you may now dismiss your servant in peace. 30 For my eyes have seen your salvation, 31 which you have prepared in the sight of all nations:

Immerse is about accepting God’s invitation to make His story our story!

Luke 2:34-35 NIV
34 Then Simeon blessed them and said to Mary, his mother: “This child is destined to cause the falling and rising of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be spoken against, 35 so that the thoughts of many hearts will be revealed. And a sword will pierce your own soul too.”

Immerse is not only about us reading God’s story, but about God’s story reading us!

Luke 2:36-38 NI
36 There was also a prophet, Anna, the daughter of Penuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was very old; she had lived with her husband seven years after her marriage,37 and then was a widow until she was eighty-four. She never left the temple but worshiped night and day, fasting and praying. 38 Coming up to them at that very moment, she gave thanks to God and spoke about the child to all who were looking forward to the redemption of Jerusalem.

When we immerse, we posture our lives in anticipation of Messiah. King Jesus!
