1 Corinthians 9:25 NIV

25 Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever.

Isaiah 55:6-7 NIV

6 Seek the Lord while he may be found;call on him while he is near. 7 Let the wicked forsake their waysand the unrighteous their thoughts.Let them turn to the Lord, and he will have mercy on them,and to our God, for he will freely pardon.

Isaiah 55:8-9 NIV

8 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts,neither are your ways my ways,”declares the Lord. 9 “As the heavens are higher than the earth,so are my ways higher than your waysand my thoughts than your thoughts.

Isaiah 55:10-11 NIV

10 As the rain and the snowcome down from heaven,and do not return to itwithout watering the earthand making it bud and flourish,so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, 11 so is my word that goes out from my mouth:It will not return to me empty,but will accomplish what I desireand achieve the purpose for which I sent it.

Read 1 Corinthians 9:24-27 and 1 Timothy 4:7-8.

What does the Apostle Paul say is the primary motivation to “Get Fit?” In what ways can this motivation fuel self-discipline in your life?

Read and reflect on these key scriptures for getting fit mentally: Mark 12:30; Romans 8:5-7;12:1-2; Colossians 3:1-10. In what specific ways can you love God with your mind this week? In Romans 8 how does Paul say we we can have our “mind governed by the Spirit?” What is the result? In Romans 12 what does Paul say is the key to not being conformed to the pattern of the world? What is the promised result?

Read Philippians 4:8-9. In this weekend’s message we focused on the power of “self-talk.” Practice this week listening to your thoughts. Is your self-talk based on a truth or a lie you have learned to believe? Intentionally replace the lie that fuels your thinking with the corresponding truth from God. Keep focusing your mind on the truth until it begins to positively impact your emotions, attitudes and actions!

Review the four areas in the Get Fit series: Mental, Social, Financial and Physical. In which area do you most need to “Get Fit?” Think about the consequences you are experiencing because of your lack health in that area. Take a few minutes and think about what your life would be like if you got fit in that area. Spend some time in prayer surrendering that area to the Lord and prepare to take some first steps to “Get Fit!”

Everyone needs a “work-out” buddy. Someone to keep you accountable and motivated as you train. This week ask a friend to help keep you on track this month as you seek to “Get Fit!”
