SERMON NOTES

James 1:19-20 NIV

19 My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry 20 because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires.

Jesus was a good listener because He took a genuine interest in people.

The most important skill for listening is seeking to understand the other persons frame of reference.

Hebrews 4:15 NIV

15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin.

The biggest reason we don’t listen well is our tendency to react emotionally when others are sharing.

James 1:20-21 NIV

20 because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires.21 Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you.
