SERMON NOTES

Mark 4:35-36 NIV

35 That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.”36 Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him.

Mark 4:37-38 NIV

37 A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped.38 Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?”

Mark 5:1-2 NIV

1 They went across the lake to the region of the Gerasenes.2 When Jesus got out of the boat, a man with an impure spirit came from the tombs to meet him.

Only God knows what’s waiting for you on “the other side” of the storm!

Mark 5:8-10NIV

8 For Jesus had said to him, “Come out of this man, you impure spirit!”9Then Jesus asked him, “What is your name?” “My name is Legion,” he replied, “for we are many.”10 And he begged Jesus again and again not to send them out of the area.

Mark 5:15 NIV

15 When they came to Jesus, they saw the man who had been possessed by the legion of demons, sitting there, dressed and in his right mind; and they were afraid.

The miracle and the mess are part of the same work of God.

Matthew 5:18-20 NIV

18 For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.19 Therefore anyone who sets aside one of the least of these commands and teaches others accordingly will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.20 For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven.
